If there were siblings, the tasks were divided: one set the table, another cleared it after. It was not negotiable. It was not celebrated. It was simply how things were done — a quiet daily obligation that, over time, became something else entirely.
It became a way of understanding that a meal is not only food. That the people around the table deserve a space prepared with care. That beauty in everyday life is not reserved for special occasions.
We are not sure this happens everywhere in the world. But in Italy, for many of us, it did. And MI RE LA was born from that memory.
Mirella
Mirella was a pianist. Those who knew her remember not only her music, but the way she moved through her home — the attention she gave to small things, the way a table was dressed, the way a meal was prepared. There was no separation, in her world, between the aesthetic and the everyday. Both deserved the same care.
When her daughter Ilaria decided to name a collection after her, she did not simply use the name. She took it apart. MI — RE — LA. Three notes on the keyboard, three syllables from the woman who taught her that elegance is something you live, not something you display.

Ilaria
Ilaria did not come to linen as a curator. She came to it as a maker.
For years, she worked with her hands — mosaics, embroidery, linen cushions crafted with the kind of patience and precision that cannot be taught, only felt. She sold them to a discerning private clientele who recognized in her work something increasingly rare: an object made by someone who truly understood the material from the inside. Linen, for Ilaria, was never simply a fabric. It was an obsession.
She grew up in northern Italy, surrounded by the textile culture that runs quietly through that part of the country — in the workshops, in the homes, in the hands of women who worked with thread and needle across generations. She moved first to New York, then to Miami, carrying with her a sensibility for beautiful, considered objects that felt increasingly rare in a world of fast interiors and disposable everything.
The further she moved from Italy, the more clearly she understood what made it irreplaceable. Not the monuments, not the food. But the particular way Italians treat the domestic — the table, the cloth, the small daily rituals that transform an ordinary meal into something worth remembering.
When she decided to return to Italy to reconnect with the artisans she had known growing up — daughters, now, of her mother's friendships — she was not going back as a businesswoman looking for suppliers. She was going back as one of them. Someone who knew what it meant to sit with a piece of linen and give it time.
She chose the pieces carefully. She brought them back to Miami, to the farmer markets where she began — carrying the story of Italian craft into the warm Florida air, one conversation at a time. People stopped. They touched the linen. They asked questions. They came back.
A Dinner, a Decision
Diego had known Ilaria for years. One evening, over dinner, he looked at what she had built and said something simple: this is very beautiful. It is a shame that people in the States cannot easily find it.
That observation became a question. The question became a project. Diego brought to it what he knew best — e-commerce, brand architecture, and a genuine belief in what Ilaria had created. Together, they built MI RE LA Italian Style.
What We Make
MI RE LA produces handcrafted Italian table linens — placemats, napkins, bread baskets, and coasters — made in small workshops in Italy by skilled artisans who guide every stage of the process with the kind of attention that cannot be automated.
Our signature pieces are crafted in resin-coated Italian linen: a material that preserves all the warmth and texture of natural linen while adding a practical, elegant surface suited to the life a beautiful table actually lives. Each piece is finished with embroidered motifs drawn from the landscapes that inspire our collections — the Amalfi Coast, Tuscany, and the Italian Alps.
